Water Heaters

Water Heater Basics

Water heaters are a vital part of your plumbing system, from heating water for sanitation or just for comfort in the shower. Having hot water when you need it is important and keeping it hot in every circumstance counts. Kurt Bohmer's Plumbing has been in business for decades and has the inside scoop on which water heater will work best for you. Water heating technology has changed and adapted based on the needs of people and businesses. For some applications a tank type water heater is better and more efficient than a tankless water heater, and vice versa. Kurt Bohmer's Plumbing considers these and other variables with every installation so that you, the customer, will get the right fixture for your situation.

Tank type water heaters will heat the water in a tank to your preset temperature. 40 and 50 gallon tanks are very common sizes for water heaters in homes. Water heater manufacturers are required to install safety switches to prevent excessive temperatures in order to keep you safe from harm. Knowing the requirements for your area is as important as knowing how to install a water heater.

Tankless water heaters heat on demand and can save on your gas bill when they are not on because there is no pilot light left constantly running. Endless hot water is another benefit of a tankless water heating unit. You will not run out of hot water because it heats as you use it. These instant water heaters work well for many homes and businesses. Tankless water heaters are one solution for being energy conscious and saving on a gas bill.

Energy star rated water heaters are another great way to stay ahead of your bills when it comes to heating water. Some of these water heaters are as efficient as a tankless water heater but cost less to install and require very little extra modification. The less you need to modify your plumbing, the more you will save in upfront costs.

Kurt Bohmer's Plumbing is continually training employees so our clients will benefit from the best products on the market. Because each situation is different and every customer is important, Kurt Bohmer's Plumbing will offer the best solution for you. Hot Water Heater Shutdown Instructions:

1.TURN OFF GAS OR ELECTRICITY: Gas: Twist the dial on the top of the thermostat from the ON to the OFF position.
Electric: Switch the circuit breaker for the water heater to the OFF position.

2.TURN OFF WATER SUPPLY. Turn the handle on the water valve CLOCKWISE until it stops. If the water does not stop, turn off the main water valve for the entire house.

3.DRAIN WATER HEATER. Attach a hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the tank. Run the other end of the hose to a lower place where you can drain rusty, hot water without causing damage. Open a hot water faucet in the house to let air into the tank.

4.OPEN THE RELIEF VALVE. Flip handle so it is sticking straight out or up. (CAUTION: Scalding hot water).
